I caught 'In Echo Park' at the Boston International Film Festival and was very impressed with this first feature film from Nat Lezra. He has a natural instinct and eye for depicting and wrestling with the conundrums- both comic and tragic- of life in the 21st century American city. Lezra builds upon some of the same themes he so incisively dove into in his first short 'No Place for Soft Eyes, which is well worth a watch if you haven't already seen it. 'In Echo Park' is the natural follow up to 'Soft Eyes, as we see similar explorations of troubled protagonists navigating the consequences of structural inequities far beyond their control.
